Odeefoo Oteng Korankye II

Chief of Berekuso • Twafohene of Akwapem

Royal Biography

Odeefoo Oteng Korankye II became Chief of Berekuso in 1996. From the beginning of his reign, he worked with the elders and community to address practical challenges facing education in Berekuso. Among the early priorities was the condition of the local school, which suffered from leaking roofs and inadequate facilities.

The community acquired 17 acres of land for a new school compound and successfully lobbied the District Assembly for funding for a new school structure. When teacher commuting created another challenge, the Chief later secured European Union support for teacher accommodation near the school.

Education & Community Service

His service has included support for classroom furniture, school activities, BECE examination fees, examination transport and other assistance for pupils. In November 2016, he founded the Odeefoo Oteng Korankye II Education Fund to expand educational opportunities for bright but needy young people in Berekuso and surrounding communities.

Leadership & Vision

The Chief has consistently described education as a pathway to prosperity and has worked toward making Berekuso a centre of excellence for education and purposeful development. His leadership has also supported partnerships and investment in education and skills development, including the presence of Ashesi University and the development of new technical and vocational opportunities in Berekuso.
